Sarasota Christian School's After School Enrichment Program provides a fun and inspiring learning environment for students to explore a variety of activities each session.  Inquiry-based and projects-based STEM classes, fine and performing arts, and sports opportunities can boost your child’s academic performance, promote physical health, and build confidence.  Both convenient and affordable for you, SCS’s After School Enrichment Program is a safe, innovative and engaging environment for your child to discover areas of interest.

Session 1
October 23rd – November 13th

Art Studio: Eric Carle Creations
Grades: K-2nd    
Dates: Mondays from 3:00-4:30pm - Oct. 23 - Nov. 13
Teacher: Mrs. Spraker

Students will participate in an art experience inspired by beloved children’s author Eric Carle (author of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”).  Using tempera paint, water colors, and texture tools, participants will paint and decorate a seahorse or mermaid as the focal point of their project.  The personality of your child’s masterpiece will be embellished with the use of glitter, jewels and other sparkling decorations.

Digital Design: Intro to Logo Creation
Grades: 3rd-5th
Dates: Mondays from 3:00-4:30pm  - Oct. 23 - Nov. 13
Teacher: Mr. Neuenschwander

Students will digitally design and create an original logo and theme verse for a fictional church. They will work with a minimum of two graphic design programs to build and design an original logo, develop appropriate color palettes, work in teams, utilize online communication to meet with their “client” pastor and church, and create an individual digital product that has been customized for their “client” church.

November 27th - December 22nd

Creative Play: Unplugged Fun
Grades: K-2nd    
Dates: Mondays from 3:00-4:30pm
Teacher: Mrs. Nielsen

Students will participate in a variety of “old fashioned activities” that use creative minds and physical bodies to have fun.  Sessions will allow children to socialize in a fun atmosphere that incorporates art, music, singing, group games, crafts and more.  No batteries, no plugs just pure fun!

Design Challenge: Cardboard Creatures
Grades: 3rd-6th
Dates: Tuesday from 3:00-4:30pm
Teacher: Mrs. Jensen

Fueled by their imaginations, students will use cardboard and other materials to create a creature that moves, incorporating the use of a 3-D pen.  They will brainstorm the design, assemble and paint their cardboard creature.  Students will then write a script and use iMovie to create a movie trailer about their creature in action.

Kitchen Gourmets: Holiday Baking

Grades: 4th-7th
Dates: Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30pm
Teacher: Mrs. Rockwell

Students will learn to navigate the kitchen with confidence while creating delightful holiday treats.  Mrs. Rockwell, a former chef, will help students learn how to follow a recipe and build an appreciation for culinary delights.  Students will make a different holiday dish each week, including appetizers, side dishes, and desserts and will take home their creations after every session.

STEM: Engineering for Kids
Grades: 2nd-5th
Dates: Thursdays from 3:00-4:10pm
Teacher: Engineering for Kids Teacher

Engineering for Kids is excited to introduce students to a new, hands-on STEM learning lesson every week from various engineering disciplines.  For each lesson, students will focus on developing problem solving, critical thinking, and peer collaboration skills.  Engineering for Kids’ professional teaching staff will inspire and motivate any budding engineer!  Please note Engineering for Kids classes end at 4:10pm.

January 22nd - March 2nd

Young Scientists: Exploring God’s Creation
Grades: K-2nd    
Dates: Mondays from 3:00-4:30pm
Teacher: Mrs. Dornemann

Students will discover, explore and experiment with God’s creation.  Through nature exploration, shelter building, obstacle courses and treasure hunts, our young learners will appreciate and enjoy all the best in our natural world. Lessons will include science experiments, nature crafts, singing, circle games, stories, and lots of fun!


Design Studio: Graphic Design for School Events
Grades: 3rd-5th
Dates: Mondays from 3:00-4:30pm
Teacher: Mr. Neuenschwander

Students will collaborate to create promotional posters and event program designs for SCS elementary school events such as the Spring Concert and Talent Show.  During the session, students learn the essentials of graphic design such as layout, space, balance, typography, and color palette to create original designs.  Students will get to see their artwork in action as it will be published around campus as promotion and featured at the events.


Sports Challenge: Ultimate Frisbee
Grades: 3rd-6th
Dates: Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30pm
Teacher: Ms. Hood

Students will have a blast learning the fundamentals of Ultimate Frisbee - a fun, challenging, inclusive team sport played in over 50 countries around the world.  Students will be outside getting plenty of exercise while they practice their Ultimate Frisbee, teamwork and cooperative skills.
