Enrichment Programs

Our enrichment programs enhance the academic curriculum and are a part of the SCS experience. We seek to inspire each student to realize their full potential and enrich their lives with opportunities to pursue and develop new interests, skills, and friends.

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest and fastest-growing non-profit economic education organization.  It is dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.  Our fifth grade students have the opportunity to be a part of Junior Achievement, which brings the real world to them, opening their minds to their potential.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

The Second Step middle school program is a universal, classroom-based prevention program designed to decrease aggression, bullying, and substance abuse and increase students’ social skills and school success. Using high interest lessons, the program addresses the problematic behaviors and core competencies shown to affect school success of middle school students and provides a foundation for creating a safe, respectful learning environment.

Tribes are an intentional way for students to establish community through creating a sense of belonging, valuing differences, and working together.  This process provides a peaceable environment for students to come together to hear and be heard as they cooperatively develop life-long learning and behavioral skills.  Tribe groups are gender-specific, include students in all three middle school grades and meet each week.
