Middle School Academics
Our middle school teachers understand that middle school students are experiencing enormous cognitive, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth. Therefore, the middle school is designed to meet those unique needs.
Cognitive: Core classes; language arts, social studies, science, math and Bible. Students also have the opportunity to take Algebra I, Geometry, and Spanish I for high school credit. Encore classes include chorus, strings, band, art, and computer.
Social/Emotional: Students develop relational skills through the Second Step curriculum, which addresses the following themes:
- Empathy and communication
- Bullying prevention
- Emotion management
- Problem solving, decision-making, and goal setting
- Substance abuse prevention
Spiritually: Students develop spiritually through:
- Bible instruction class
- Daily chapels:
- Teaching from guest speakers
- Praise and worship
- Student-led chapels
- Small Groups: small gender-based, mixed age groups
- Peer relationships
- Student-to-student accountability
Physical: All middle school students participate in a physical education class three times a week. Students in middle school have opportunities to join sports team. Sarasota Christian School offers volleyball, cross-country, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, swimming, tennis, cheerleading, and golf.
